Training
This year, we are continuing the exciting initiatives
developed in recent years. The purpose is to introduce
more people to the joys of sailing small boats and just
as importantly, to offer the opportunity for the existing
members to improve their skills – and enhance
their enjoyment of this great sport. |

Sailing
Taster Sessions
Ever thought about sailing? Wondered if it’s for you?
Thought you might like to try it but don't want to commit
the time or money? Try our taster sessions. The format is
simple - contact our training officer, Peter Dewhurst (details
below) who will arrange for 3 x 2 hour introductory sailing
sessions at the club. This will include full use of the club
facilities (changing rooms, showers, galley & bar), 3
x two hour sessions in a club boat with a trained instructor.
Even better, if you then decide to join the club we will set
the cost against your 1st year’s membership fee. All
this for only £30 - why are you waiting?
Sailing Lessons
Our annual Learn to Sail course has been a successful feature
of the club’s programme for many years. In addition,
for the past two years we have also run weekend courses to
help members – and non members - improve their sailing
and therefore their enjoyment of the sport. The success of
these courses tells us that members want to learn more
However, not all our members are on the water every weekend.
Some we see only a few times each season. Are you one of them?
If so ask yourself these questions:
- Would you like to sail more often?
- Do you avoid racing because you don’t want to “get
in the way”?
- Even if you don’t want to race - for example, you
prefer our Friday cruising evenings - are you discouraged
through lack of confidence in your abilities?
A few sessions with our qualified RYA dinghy instructors will
help you on your way to being a better sailor. This will bring
the confidence to enjoy your sailing more. You’ll launch
your boat more often or, if you’re a non boat owning
member, help convince you to buy that boat!
Remember: Sailing Lessons will bring confidence – and
in sailing, that means wanting to sail rather than looking
for reasons not to!
How will the Training Programme work?
Phone Peter Dewhurst, our training officer (details below).
Peter will then arrange a programme tailored to your needs,
whether you want a one-off session or a full programme. We
will normally be on the water in small groups but lessons
will be one on one, that’s one student to one instructor.
Safety boat cover will be provided
